History of Wem Business Park

Located just behind Wem High Street, Wem Business Park sits on a site with a rich industrial heritage dating back to 1870, when it first opened as Wem Brewery. The brewery operated for more than a century before closing in 1988, after which the property was converted into individual units and leased to local businesses.

From 2003 onward, the site gradually fell into disrepair due to remote ownership and a lack of ongoing maintenance. By 2020, it was listed for sale as an investment opportunity, but the extensive repairs required deterred potential buyers.

A New Chapter Under Superfast Properties

In May 2022, Superfast Properties acquired the site and began an ambitious redevelopment programme aimed at restoring its character while modernising it for long-term commercial use.

Regenerating a business park, especially one with such historical significance as the former brewery, is a daunting endeavour. The design concept aim of the rebuild scheme was to create a commercially viable, high-quality business park which would bring significant economic benefit and employment opportunities to the town of Wem.

Key improvements include:

  • Rebuilding fire-damaged and dilapidated structures to full modern building standards
  • Installation of solar panels supplying clean, renewable energy directly to tenants
  • A dedicated EV charging station powered by on-site solar generation
  • Recladding, new roofing, roller shutters, and pedestrian access doors across multiple units
  • A full refurbishment of the main office block

This extensive renovation has transformed Wem Business Park into a safe, sustainable, and future-ready site—honouring its industrial heritage while supporting the next generation of local businesses.
